Actor Alec Baldwin has been indicted on involuntary manslaughter charges once again.
Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins with a prop gun during a rehearsal on the New Mexico set of the movie Rust in 2021. Initially thought to have been loaded with blanks, the gun was later found to have been loaded with live rounds. Baldwin was charged early last year, but the case was dropped three months later.
Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger that led to the fatal shooting. But a grand jury revealed new evidence that contradicted his statement, leading to the new charges. The prosecution determined that Baldwin must have pulled the trigger for the gun to go off, according to the new evidence.
If convicted, he could face up to 18 months in prison.
Baldwin’s lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, said, “We look forward to our day in court,” in a statement on Friday.
