    Venice’s popular outdoor music series kicks off the summer season on the golf course with Tom Petty tribute band Petty Criminals. Since mid-pandemic when we all started going back to outdoor events, the Penmar Sessions have been a welcome community addition and have only grown in popularity, with folks bringing the whole family out for an early picnic and great live music every week.

    Whether you’re east side or west side, you have an opportunity this weekend to enjoy classical Easter concerts from the L.A. Chamber Orchestra. The ensemble, along with guest artists John Holiday and Amanda Forsythe, will perform Bach’s Easter Oratorio and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater as well as Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

    Seven bluegrass bands, including the Honey Buckets, the Salty Sweets, and The Honey Whiskey Trio perform for free in Long Beach this weekend at the inaugural Long Beach Bluegrass Festival. Plus, you can visit the instrument "petting zoo" and taste treats from a variety of food trucks.

    The first floor of the Broad Museum comes to life this weekend, with live readings, music, DJs, a video installation, and dance performances by an eclectic mix of local artists. From art critic Jerry Stahl to L.A. hip hop queen Medusa and the Gangsta Goddess, the galleries will be lit up with a diverse array of talent that has influenced SoCal culture in recent years.

    Inspired by the classic George Gershwin song, "Summertime," sung by Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, students from the Glendale Unified School District teamed up with immersive art creators SUPERCOLLIDER to create a series of pieces that take our environmental landscape into consideration in new ways. The show’s opening is Saturday; the art will be on view through Saturday, May 18.
