The 10 Freeway Is Back. That Was … Fast (And Other Headlines)

Good traffic news does exist — the 10 Freeway has been reopened, just in time for Thanksgiving week.

This is quite the turnaround than from just over a week ago, when a fire Saturday at a pallet yard near downtown charred a key section of the freeway. That prompted a shutdown and looming fears of a traffic hellscape that would last for at least weeks, if not months.

But on Sunday morning, authorities were instead giving thanks to the 10 Freeway’s ultra-fast reopening.

"The good news is there was more good news," said Gov. Gavin Newsom. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass called it "a great day for Los Angeles." Even Vice President Kamala Harris was on hand, calling the round-the-clock work to get the freeway in game shape “extraordinary.”
