Asup Strike Asks its Members to Resume Work

ASUP strike of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its two-week warning strike. The union made this known and instructed its members to pick up their academic pursuits again the following month.

Today is the first day of work, under the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics’ (ASUP) directive to its members.

Remember that the union went on a two-week warning strike on May 16, 2022, to protest the Federal Government’s failure to uphold certain provisions of a memorandum of action it signed with the union in 2021.

The union said it has observed significant fulfilment of its demands in a statement yesterday that was signed by Abdullahi Yelwa, ASUP’s national publicity secretary.

ASUP Strike Looms As Federal Govt Cannot Release N15 Billion Revitalisation Funds

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) leadership has stated that if the federal government does not transfer the agreed-upon N15 billion as revitalisation funding into the country’s public polytechnics, the ASUP may go on strike.

The union’s press secretary, Mr. Abdullahi Yalwa, released a statement on Sunday following the union’s 101st regular National Executive Council meeting, which took place at the Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Saapade, Ogun State.

The lecturers said they would not give any warning strike again before going into total and indefinite industrial action should the government continue not to yield to meet its own terms of the last agreement reached with the union in April.
