Kristen Muller

Chief Content Officer (she/her)

As Southern California Public Radio’s Chief Content Officer, Kristen Muller oversees the station’s programming, podcasting and its excellent local journalism. She leads an award-winning team of hosts, reporters, producers and editors who are dedicated to informing, entertaining and connecting the diverse communities of LA.

Muller has spent more than 20 years in a newsroom. Her career launched at CBS News, where she started as a researcher and worked her way up to producer of the CBS Evening News. She also spent two years as an associate producer at 60 Minutes, where she won an Emmy Award. She joined SCPR in 2010 to launch The Madeleine Brand Show and eventually became managing editor of the newsroom as it expanded its journalistic capacity, transforming from a radio station to a multi-platform civic news institution. Since taking on the role of Chief Content Officer in 2017, Muller’s team has driven significant digital audience growth. She also expanded the newsroom’s investigative reporting capacity, increased its community engagement efforts, and launched an award-winning podcast division.

Muller has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a recipient of the prestigious Knight Fellowship at Stanford University and completed a year-long course in media transformation at Columbia University’s journalism school.
